The Individual Oral (IO) is worth 30% of your final English A grade. Success depends on choosing a strong Global Issue and making meaningful connections between your two literary texts.
Choosing Your Global Issue
A good Global Issue is: (1) genuinely global, affecting many communities worldwide, (2) significant and debatable, and (3) clearly represented in both texts. Avoid issues that are too broad (e.g., "love") or too specific to one culture.
IO Structure
- Introduction (1-2 min): Introduce your Global Issue and both extracts
- Body (8-9 min): Analyze how each extract presents the issue, making connections between them
- Conclusion (1-2 min): Summarize your main points and reflect on the global significance
Tip: Practice with a timer. Going significantly over or under time will impact your score.
